A Web Application Model to Promote Tourism from the Educational Context: Case Study Ecuador

Abstract: In today’s world, where the use of mobile devices has increased significantly, commerce is forced not only to offer its services through a web page or an office but through location-based services as a technology for fast information access. However, solutions for obtaining the specific location of the user or the service make it necessary to rely on additional hardware and/or software within the mobile device or as part of the system infrastructure. This work presents a localization model adapted to the city of Loja (Ecuador). The model combines several options of visualization to provide reliable services to the tourist: mobile, web and touch panel along with the application of Google Maps showcases data such as hotels location, museums, churches, cathedrals, and location-based ads. Furthermore, this combination allows an easy data access from any mobile telephone system by using QR (Quick Response). Additionally, consultations can be made through Touch Panels.

Title:

Pavements Course: Is the Flipped Classroom Model Effective in All Cases? A Case Study in a Developing Country

Abstract: The flipped classroom model is one of the active learning techniques which has depicted good results worldwide when applied to university education, especially in developing countries. This technique has been employed in several areas of knowledge; however, its application within a Pavements course has not been reported yet. So, this article aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the flipped classroom technique applied to this subject. Two research questions related to the influence of the flipped model on both, students’ final grades and their opinion about its effectiveness were carried out. The experiment was applied to four groups: two groups took the course with the traditional method while the other two attended the flipped classroom model. Students from group A-B had to attend a face-to-face lecture, while learners from group C-D had to watch a pre-recorded lecture before class attendance. As result, students in the traditional model got better average final grades than those of the flipped one; however, students, in general, were more satisfied with the flipped model. The flipped model promoted self-learning and proactivity from students to look for what is unknown to them, which is a quite valuable skill in the field of Civil Engineering.

The Connectivity as Value Strategic: The Development the Digital Media in Bolivia

Abstract: Access to the Internet is accepted by the United Nations as a human right. This declaration states that all countries must guarantee Internet access and freedom of expression for all people. In this sense, Bolivia has experienced remarkable progress, so, between 2015 and 2017 Internet access covered 45%, with more incidence in the urban area, but there is still a need to provide a higher coverage of this service, to more than half of its habitants. A pending issue is the enlargement of connectivity coverage. This scenario and conditions allow the performance analysis of Bolivian digital media. The research study is focused on eight native and traditional media that have been uploaded to the web. The methodology used is mixed (qualitative and quantitative) through an extended file. The file includes indicators such as: media morphology, accessibility, interactivity, hypertextuality, multimedia, constant updating, usability, new trends in journalism, presence in social networks and digital platforms as content support.

Scientific Visibility in Educational Innovation Extracted from the Scopus Database

Abstract: Educational innovation represents the attitude and process of generating new contributions, which can be carried out individually or collectively, for the solution of problematic situations that allow a transformation in environments where they are applied. This article analyzed the concept of educational innovation used in the research carried out at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, which were indexed in the Scopus database from 2016 to 2020. In this context, the systematic mapping study (SMS) was applied to evaluate the quantity and types of primary studies in educational innovation that the UTPL has as scientific evidence in the last 5 years. The SMS methodology was used as a research methodology, it will allow sorting and classifying information in the field of Educational Innovation.
